    3. There's sure to be a directory that will help - I believe Sands and McDougall directories covered Ballarat at this time .. in Victoria, many of the public libraries have a family history section containing the Sands and McDougall directories on microfiche .. not sure about NSW... perhaps check with the local libary - they may locate a library nearby that may help? What a fascinating family the Hollanders must have been - still are I expect :) And such large families - At the National Archives site - where I imagine Lesley has already checked and gathered information: Lewis Hollander's 1904 naturalization application made in NSW indicates that Lewis arrived in Port Melbourne in 1857 and went to Sydney in about 1900-1901 and that he had 13 children ... Jacob Hollander - also moved to NSW and appears to have been involved in the development of a linotype process - both men seem to be involved in manufacturing of some sort .. good luck Robert in warm Melbourne - hoping for more rain ... 3. Lillian, I was just looking through Charles Samuel's war record and he was killed in 1916 and it states his medals were given to his eldest brother - Albert Ernest so that would confirm Edwin had died before he enlisted in 1916. There is an Edwin ADAMS that died in WA in 1911 but there is no more information in the index such as age or parents to indicate it might be the right one. 3. On 25th August, 1864 at Ballarat West John LEDWITH and his wife Bridget nee McCORMACK had a daughter Adelaide. Their own address was given as Ballarat West. John's occupation was listed on the birth registration as "Hotel Keeper". Does SKS have access to a directory or list of licensed premises and/or publicans that could give any additional information? The couple appear to have been married in Adelaide a couple of years earlier although no record can be found. John was 35 and from Co. Clare and Bridget was 24 and from Co. Westmeath. I tend to think that Ballarat West in 1860 was what is the main part of the city to-day and of course there was the odd hotel or three! ANY information would be most gratefully received Regards, Chris

He died in Bairnsdale in 1907, so which newspapers served the area then? I hope that such Inquiries were reported in the news. I will hopefully get into the National Library in about 3 weeks or so, but they seem to have a number of different papers serving East Gippsland at different times and they overlap in years. So a little advice/recommendations would help. He was a jockey and my aunt had told me that he died in a horse riding accident. As the cause of death is listed as "Concussion of the brain" I am inclined to think that it may be the case, but a newspaper report would help. Interestingly of the 5 entries on the page2 of them have Magisterial Inquiries and one has a Magisterial order for burial Tia in Canberra Search 1000's of available singles in your area at the new Yahoo!7 Dating. 3. Seems like a longshot posting this request here? If the Sartoris are connected to Daylesford then may I suggest you take a trip to Daylesford - a pretty little town - sadly gentrified? is yuppyfied or antiquified latte creating the wrong impression? and a little expensive these days??? - but still very easy to imagine what the place must have been like a 100 - 130 or so years ago ...and well worth the effort of getting there .. short drive from Melbourne anyhow - when you get to Daylesford - find the museum - if it is still going? - they may have photographs of various family members .. they did have pics of my wife's grt.grandparents - so I imagine they may have Sartoris as well? I've changed the heading to more accurately reflect the request - and I believe there is a very helpful and probably very busy SKS and occasional reader of this site - Clare Gervasoni - very helpful when it comes to Daylesford and nearby Hepburn Springs - and may have some now distant connection to the SARTORIs - SARTORIs and GERVASONNIs at some stage married each other in the Daylesford region??? so you never know your luck .. FWIW - try getting the family tree organised and locate distant living relatives - they may have pictures in their albums that may assist you ... from what I've seen in my own family research - old photographs have a better chance of surviving if they fall into the hands of the female lines - so follow the daughters if you can - and to take your mind off the whole damn problem - get hold of a guaranteed feel good movie - out on DVD for some time now - filmed in and around the Hepburn Springs Daylesford district - Jan Sardi's romance - *Love's brother *- starring the brilliant Giovanni Ribisi, Adam Garcia, Amelia Warner - the story of 2 brothers finding their Italian wives in rural Australia - good luck Robert in Melbourne lillian wrote: > Still hoping sks will send me copies of photgraphs from the following families... I got a lot of help at that time and a lot of very useful information. I am now hoping that someone may be able to help me clarify information about John Kelsall BROWN. His birth is listed as 1875 and his death was in 1922 aged 46 in Melbourne. JKB was the son of John BROWN and Alice GARLICK. I can find JKB on the Electoral Rolls, showing different addresses, occupation is either Clerk or Bank Clerk. I also found a newspaper article giving details of his death in 1922 at Graham Road, Highett. This article states he was a Bank Clerk. His age is given as 40 not 46. So all the information suggests the same person. However, Graham Road, Highett is not the address on the Electoral Rolls. The Electoral Rolls for 1919 and 1924 (2 years after JKB's death) is 2 Anderson St Melbourne. I accept that the newspaper article may have put the wrong age. However I am a little confused about the address given in the article, when compared to the Electoral Rolls. Why would he have a different address? Why would he appear on the Electoral Rolls 2 years after his death? Perhaps someone has an explanation for this. Maybe I am dealing with two different John Kelsall BROWN's, both born within 7 years of each other. I'm not convinced about this. Does anyone have access to birth records who could look up and see if this is a possibility? I would be very grateful for any help and advice.
