Hi Jason, I am researching the MILTHORPE family and have an Alice MILTHORPE who married Thomas H. SLATER in Albury which is on the NSW/Vic. border. As their farm was called 'Milthorpe' and the name is Thomas H. SLATER, I'm wondering if this is my family? If so, I'd love to swap information with you. Thomas Huddlestone SLATER (Senior) was a watchmaker, Justice of the Peace and Mason. He died in 1911. One of the sons, Thomas Huddlestone SLATER joined the 23rd Battalion AIF in 1915. The family supposedly lived on the farm 'Milthorpe' until Thomas Snr's death when they moved to Bridge Street. Any information on the family or the residences would be greatly appreciated. > > Regards > > Jason > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND Mailing List ==== > To search posts to the list, even back to 1999, go to > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > and, when asked, enter the list name as AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND > > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. > Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.8.9/42 - Release Date: 6/07/05 > >
Thanks for the email Ann Your'll right. Alice Milthorpe was born in Brown's Plain and married T.H Slater (Snr) in Albury. The family moved to Kilmore in the early 1890's and then moved on to Korumburra in 1900. She is my paternal grandmother's grandmother. If you are interested I can scan some photos and documents etc for you. The Milthorpes appear to be a prominent family in northern victoria and all moving there in the 1850's.
