An 1893 photograph has been sighted, placing this photographer at Sale. An O. Langhorne has also been recorded as producing postcards of an unknown quantity and date from Woods Point, which is in all probability a reference to Charles Langhorne. In 1896 F.Meyer of the firm of Langhorne and Meyer, photographers, won a competition for the design of the band rotunda at Walhalla. In 1899 Langhorne is recorded as being a photographer at Walhalla, although there is no corresponding record of Meyer at the same place." The 1893 photo is inscribed "C.Langhorne, Photo Artist, Sale" Peter Synan's index to the Gippsland Times shows a John Herbert Langhorne as a bank manager at Sale c.1885-1893, reports of leaving 14.8.1893, 11.9.1893. It is not a common name in the indexes. (And I am a bit confused to see a reference in the Sale Family History Group index to B,D&Ms in local papers to a death of John Herbert Langhorne at Sale mentioned in the Gippsland Mercury 2.9.1886, and the birth of a daughter to him at Sale in the Gippsland Times of 17.1.1887) By coincidence, John H. Langhorne is listed as a bank manager at Walhalla in Middleton and Manings Gippsland Directory 1884-5. p.62 "MEYER, F. A Member of the photographic firm of Lanhorne and Meyer, he won the prize for the design of the band rotunda at Walhalla in 1896. He may well have been the Fred. Meyer, artist, recorded as being at Geelong in 1899, and it is interesting to speculate on any connection between him and the Mr Meyer, photo framer of Warragul, who provided premises for Millist [another photographer] in 1905".
