Hi Marion I think it's both. There is a very early property called "The Heart" (c1850s) and I believe the general area is also known as that too. The following extract is from "Is Emu Off The Menu?" by Gippsland Grammar Foundation, 2007: "The property known as 'The Heart' was first selected by Curlewis. It received its name from a heart carved on a tree where the old station homestead stood. The 1856 electoral roll indicates the property was owned by John Foster and he was running 4,000 sheep at the time. William Montgomery was well-known in the district as the manager of 'The Heart' and the home built for him on the property was the first brick residence in Sale, built towards the end of the 1870s. Montgomery purchased the propety in 1876 and left Sale in 1886. The property was leased in the 1890s to James Lyon and Atkinson who bred horses for India. Fred Gilder owned the property in the late 1890s, and in 1906 Robert Gilder and his wife were living at the homestead, and their child died there. In 1908 the Closer Settlement Board bought the Heart Estate from absentee landlord Major Henry Foster whol lived in Tasmania. It was subdivided into small dairy farms to supply the Sale Butter Factory with milk. The homestead farm was owned by Sarah Finegan, wife of the mayor, Philip Finegan, who died at 'The Heart' around 1930 and the family sold the property." I trust this helps you sort out your query. The Heart is between Sale and Lake Wellington, due east of Sale. I thought this was a property name but John and Bridget Frawley also lived at "The Heart". 1860s, 70s. Births and deaths in Sale area, Sale Cemetery. So I assume it is near Sale. Is it an area or property name? Thanks, Marion.
