I agree with the sentiments about lookups. But can anyone tell me if Rosedale pioneers are included in the book? I agree that we should all attempt to purchase a copy of this latest book Can you tell us the cost please? I agree also with your point about lookups These groups have spent time, money and many hours compiling these books so people should not be asking for free lookups at this stage Some people may disagree with this point of view. They are entitled to their opinion Di in Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Barraclough" <kapana@netspace.net.au> To: <aus-vic-gippsland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2007 7:36 AM Subject: [AVG] Clonmel to Federation Index > Hi Everyone, > > The post about the long-awaited Sale and District Pioneer Index > reminds me that yesterday I received my copy of Clonmel to > Federation: Guide to People in the Port Albert area 1841-1901. > > This is a two volume, 754 page compilation (A4 pages, dense print) of > notes about people from the Gippsland area that is much wider than > Port Albert. I also agree, I have alot of interest in the Gippsland area, and it would be great to be able to purchase a copy of the new book, It also would have been better for you to know the cost of the book or even given some idea of cost, when you put this to the list. My daughter lives in Sale; if the book is a reasonable price, I’m sure she would buy a copy for me, save’s postage and handing.. Hi Everyone, Regarding the cost of books - you may have noticed that Naomi and I were a little careful with our wording - as Rootsweb requests that we do not indulge in commercial activity on lists. Which is why both posts included details for an e-mail address for further enquiries. Enquiries as to cost / availability etc need to be directed to those e-mail addresses, offlist. I am more than happy to see not-for-profit organisations posting one-off notifications about their new publications on that basis. It is what the list is all about. Commercial publishers are welcome to contact me offlist and I am happy to try and work out a post that hopefully fits Rootsweb guidelines. It is possible I might even sail close to the wind and point to commercial websites - which is a bit of a Rootsweb no-no. But I would prefer those posts came from me rather than commercial operators feel that it is okay to post direct to list. It isn't. (Long-term members will be aware I am a commercial publisher. So I know how the other half lives, too). Cheers Linda List-admin AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND
Re Rosedale: I am having a mental blank day, so the only Rosedale resident I can think of is James RINTOUL. He has a middling-sized entry. Gwen has just given me permission to post a page on the net, which I will do later today, to give a better idea of the sort of content in the book. If you have a surname between GIBSON and GILL, hang in there by the fingernails and you never know your luck.
