    3. Hi Dale Your story has opened a whole area I knew nothing about ie 'drover's boy'. I just assumed a relationship between a white man and an aboriginal woman would be a very unequal one - it is nice to know that wasn't always so. Back to DNA testing. In Australia the DNA testing for paternity etc is around $400 I believe. But I have seen some websites encouraging it for family tree information and from memory it wasn't as expensive but I am not sure. At first I thought if Grandma Dunn was still alive she may not have known the facts surrounding her birth, often older siblings are a better source for this knowledge but the fact she called her handbag a dillybag could have meant she had been told or it was just a family saying. I grew up on Thursday Island in Torres Strait and my father used a few local language words in his conversation as a result of exposure to a community rather than a genetic link. (I have researched his tree so am very sure there is no genetic link) I am still intrigued with the story and my 'gut' instinct is that it is very possible Grandma Dunn's mother was Aboriginal but proving it is going to be difficult. Please keep digging and let us know on the list. regards Lynne Very very wet and now flooded Townsville
