Well, I'm very happy to say that my gt.gt.grandmother, Susan Tanner, signed at Traralgon. (Curious that I have at least 6 other women in various family lines who did not). As a widow she came to Australia in 1874 from Cork, Ireland, with her seven adult children and her husband's brothers and their families, to settle in Callignee, Gippsland. She signed the petition aged 76 but sadly died in 1899 before Women's suffrage became reality. Regards, Sandra PS: Mornington Peninsula FHS have just begun a group project along similar lines. Approximately 80 women on the Peninsula signed (most on the Port Phillip side, but none on the Western Port Bay side). We had admired the online bios that Casterton Historical Society had researched on women from their district, and quickly decided we should do the same, to help redress the balance of male-dominated local history.
