    3. Hi Glenys, Sarah Hannah appears in the Roberts baptisms (Presbyterian), bap 24.4.1871 at Stratford, dau of Robert Lake (brickmaker) and Jane Atkinson. I only have the years 1865-1874 on my computer, and that is the only time the family appears in them. Roberts was based at Maffra - it is possible they were baptised by the Presbyterian minister from Sale. The register appears to be the province of the Minister, not the church. When he travelled, all sorts of people appeared in it. About what year would you suggest Elizabeth Lake was born, and do you feel they would have been consistently Presbyterian - or are some of the others you quote born within the time range of the Roberts baptisms? If they were, and they are not there, there was an active Methodist Church in Stratford, where no records have been located. The Anglican records for Stratford are, I think, held at Stratford, and can be accessed for a donation. Have you any idea where Elizabeth Lake thought she was born - such as on her wedding certificate? regards Linda At 11:16 AM 4/03/2008 +1100, you wrote: >I am unable to find the birth registration for my ancestor Elizabeth >Lake. <snip>

    3. Hello Linda, Thanks for your reply. My guess is Eliz. Was born abt 1859 or 1861, she is listed 3rd on her mothers death certificate in 1920, information was given by the youngest son Ernest. When married in 1880 she gives her age as 19 years old and birth place as Bairnsdale. Births of siblings are as follows George b 1858 Tarraville, Robert Atkinson b 1860 Sale, Alfred Hashy b 1863, Mary Jane b 1865, Margaret b 1867, Sarah Hannah b 1869, Ellen Jane b 1872, Edith b 1874, Ernest Atkinson b 1877. All births after Robert were at Stratford. I don't know if they were consistently Presbyterian, I guess possibly not and the Anglican records could be worth a look.
