Hagenauer arrives and establishes Ramahyuk Jun: Duffy Act (selection before survey) sets aside a further 4m ha for selection. Effective to March 1865. Jul: Donelly's Creek and Fulton's Creek goldfields near Jordan discovered. Sep 29: Berwick Roads District formed. Oct 19: The brigantine Hugh Roberts goes down near Ram Head with considerable loss of life. Dec 16: Gold was discovered at Walhala. unk: Public meeting at Sale offers a reward for the discovery of a track to the new Jordan goldfield. unk: Cobb and Co takes over Sale to Port Albert run. unk: NSW establishes a permanent light on Gabo Island. unk: Sale school declared a National school. unk: Common schools bought under the control of the Board of Education. 1863 early: The Enterprise is sold to a Melbourne businessman, and leaves the Lakes. Feb: Ned Stringer and party find gold at Stringer's Creek, later known as Walhalla. Feb: Extensive flooding in Gippsland, with the loss of at least 7 lives. Floodwaters cut a deeper channel in to the Lakes. May 18: Area of Lake Tyers Mission gazetted. Aug 1: Samual Anderson dies at Western Port. Aug 10: Sale declared a Borough, the first in Gippsland. Sep: Ned Stringer dies at Toongabbie. Oct 23: First meeting at Bairnsdale in an attempt to form a Roads Board. unk: McMillan acquires 16,000 acres at Tabbarabbara, regranted Cuigmungie. unk: Howitt appointed to Omeo as Warden and Magistrate. unk: Alluvial gold discovered at Haunted Stream, first reef opened at Omeo. unk: Dargo gold rush. 1864 Feb: Report submitted to Parliament regarding the delay in the construction of the Yarra Track to the Wood's Point and Jordan goldfields. Feb 2: Alberton Roads Board becomes a Shire. Mar-May: McMillan in charge of a party that cuts Alpine track between the alpine goldfields. Apr: Reefs discovered Crooked River. Howittville, Talbotville and Grant townships begin. June: Gippsland Lakes Steam Navigation Company advertises its intention of providing a service from Sale with lakes steamers to connect with coastal steamers to Melbourne. Jul: Meeting called at Sale by Dr Hedley that leads to the Sale Hospital being built. Jul 22: McMillan reported as having injured himself in a fall from his horse while track cutting. Aug: The Tambo arrives to begin service for the Gippsland Lakes Navigation Company. Sep 13: Avon District Roads Board formed. Nov: Gaol built at Sale to replace an earlier one. unk: Miners Taylor and Brache report 200 Chinese diggers in the Bendoc-Delegate-Hayden's Bog area, with trouble between them and white miners. unk: Sir William J. Clarke acquires Orbost station, employing Robert Henry to manage it. unk: Deptford known to be a town.
