Lorraine Key, The book "The Path of Progress" (1934) by Hugh Copeland relates to early selections in the Warragul district. It was reprinted with an index in 1982. The name Clark does not appear in the index. Yhe book "Buln Buln" (Drouin, 1979 - 794 pages) by Graeme Butler covers the area north, west and south of Warragul. The names T.J. Clark and G.M. Clark are not shown in the index. The book "The Changing Years" (1972 - 60 pages) by Marie Nation, Joyce Erbs et al (1972) relates to the Hill End, Willow Grove and Fumina Districts. There are several boioklets relating to Nilma, Darnum and Ellinbank - e.g. "Lillico - Nilma North" by L & NN Centenary Celebration and Reunion Committee (undated, probably about 1980 - 60 pages). There is no index. I regret that I don't have time to look through it for your Clarks. I would advise you to find out where your Clarks were living (e.g. from early directories or electoral rolls). Next, identify the land parish (from Municipal directories), and then check the Schedule of Allotments for that parish (Vic Government Bookshop) and find the position of the allotment in a parish map. Note the file number of the allotment, then visit PRO Laverton (or employ a searcher) and photocopy all documents in the file. These should include the origfinal application of the selector for an occupation licence, an application three years later for a Crown Lease (which provides an enormous amount of information about the dwelling, crops, etc) and all letters sent to the Lands Department by the selector. . You ask; "Have you researched Savige/Savage at all?'. Members of the Savige family have been interested in the history of the family for many years. Reference to the history of the family is made in "There Goes a Man" (1959) by W.B. Russell - a Biography of Lieut-General Sir Stanley G. Savige (who served his country in two World Wars and was founder of Legacy). On page 13, reference is made to two branches of the family in Gippsland - 'the Hill Saviges' (descendants of Thomas Savige and his wife Annie Powell) and the 'Swamp Saviges' (descendants of John Savige and Emma Russell)..[John and Thomas Savige were brotrhers who selected land in the Narracan hills in 1877-5. Thomas and Annie lived out their lives at Narracan, while John and family moved to Moe in about 1885.] In May 1961, in order to mark the 90th birthday of their father Albert (Bert) Savige, Russell Savige and his sister Meryl Jackson of Moe organised a family gathering of all Savige descendants at Narracan Falls. Over 500 descendants attended and pages of pictures were shown in the "Weekly Times". The reunions have been held triennially ever since. The 13th reunion was held in March of this year, and some English and American relatives came over in order to attend... Several books relating to the history of the family have been published - the first by Ronald Murray Savige in 1966. Mrs Margot Titcher later continued the research into the early history of the family in southern Northamptonshire, and I teamed up with her following my retirement in 1980. Our most recent book is "Savage-Savige" (1996). Walter Savige .
