Kathleen Dacey, The Schedule of Allotments (obtainable at Vic State Government Bookshop) for Parish of Moe (Sheet 1) shows that the title for Allotment Number 84 of 47.75 hectares was transferred from the Crown to E. Conley on 27 April 1888. You should be able to find Francis's original selection claim and all relevant documents and correspondence in Land Selection File Number 4284/19.20 (Melbourne District) at Vic Public Record Office, Cherry Lane, Laverton. The Moe Parish map shows the position of the block There is a four-way intersection about one kilometre from Thorpdale township on the Trafalgar Road.. Go west along Cooks Road, across the Little Narracan Creek, then a short distance up the hill. The block is on the left. My cousin lives there now - Mr Stanley G. Savige, Thorpdale, Vic 3835 - a very friendly man. I can find no reference to your Francis in "So Tall the Trees". He might be mentioned in a book by Jim Tlgner: "A Brief History of Thorpdale and District" (Mirboo, 1976). My copy seems to be temporarily misplaced. Failing that you could write to Jim - Mr J.R.
