On the back is the notation S.S. >Murmungee, any clues any one? ========================================================== The best source of information on Victorian schools, Gippsland and otherwise, is "Vision and Realisation: A Centenary History of State Education in Victoria". This is a huge, three volume set of red books still to be found in most state schools in Victoria. I bought mine int he 1970s when they were being remaindered by the Govt Printer at $2 a volume, they are now over $100 each! It gives potted histories of all schools in Victoria. Murmungee (Reg no.997) opened in 1869 on the main Beechworth to Bright Road, and closed in 1963. The accounts often name the local correspondent when the school opened (the person who wrote letters), some teachers etc. Unfortunately it is not indexed. I am happy to do lookups by area, please e-mail me privately on kapana@netspace.net.au Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong List Owner: AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND email: kapana@netspace.net.au http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/
