> >Hi Elizabeth, > Having checked the death registration for Gavin Ralston, I >know he was buried in Sale on 3 February 1873. Can anybody tell me whether >there is a headstone and what is says? Are there any photos of this >cemetery? A few months back my husband and I went on a search of Sale Cemetery looking for his ancestors, it is a rather large cemetery though, so it is not an easy place to wander in search of that elusive grave. Sale Historical Society have a Cemetery Transcript of all the graves that have headstones, this would be by far the easiest was to find out. I did find the Sale Cemetery Office Secretary ( Lorraine Callahan) most helpful though, and for a modest search fee of $5 they will do a search for the specific grave and give you any details associated (including the cause of death if they know it) and anyone else that is buried in the same plot. I am not local to the area (I live in NSW) but I do have the address, and I know that it is more difficult for you since you are in the UK, so, if you do not have any other success from the people who have offered assistance, please let me know and I will order the search on your behalf, and email you the information. I also have a map of the cemetery, so it wouldn't be too hard to find the specific plot once we had a number and area ,and then perhaps someone else could go and look and take a photo if there is a headstone, or we could do it the next time we are down there. I would also be happy to send you a scanned image of the map if you want it. I won't send it until you let me know, I wouldn't like to cause you a download charge unexpectedly if you have to pay one. We are longing for the opportunity to get back there to follow up some research of our own. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Julie Simpson
