Hi List, I have just finished an inspection with the Regional and Specialist Museums Advisory Committee of the excellent museums at Foster and Port Albert. It has reminded me that many people do not know, for example, that Lassetter was at Corner Inlet before he went to where-ever he went looking for his reef. His workboat is at Foster Museum. We were talking about light-houses a while ago - and the Cliffy Island Lighthouse workboat is at the Port Albert Maritime Museum. If you want to know more about some of our local museums, you can check Australiam Museums on Line, at http://amol.org.au/ For some there are even have photographs of local items. (Ignore what they have done to mix up the Stratford items!). Through the same site, at Open Collections, you can search a number of collections. For example, there appears to be a huge collection of show ribbons in the Museum of Victoria from the 1930s that include shows at Maffra, Bairnsdale and Sale. And lots of details of local photographs at places like the Gold Museum in Ballarat. Some of our museums appear in the Wellington and East Gippsland Shires pages in resources, but those elsewhere in Gippsland do not have a listing. So I thought I might add a museums page to the AVG home page - details of any museums are welcome. Please feel free to name any gems in the collections that you think we should watch out for when we visit.
