>It includes a map, which places Jarrahmond north of lakes Entrance > Ummmm. Leave Orbost, cross Snowy River just to the west. Turn right up the Orbost to Buchan Road, and you are as good as in Jarrahmond. I would have said this is due east of Lakes Entrance. It grew GIANT pumpkins. >From "Vision and Realisation" (the index to which is only by school name), School No. 2745 opened 1886, half time with Orbost, which opened at the same time. First building erected on the bank of the Snowy River, moved 1892 to McLeod's Lane. New building erected in 1914, remained open until 1949 when a bus service began to take children in to Orbost. Building transferred also, and is still part of Orbost Primary School. The huge pumpkins (along with others from the Orbost Flats) are featured in photographs by Orbost photographer Helena Warren, where they were hollowed out and you would have multiple children floating in them on the Snowy River. Helena also did genuine trick photos, where she would have, for example, one pig filling an entire cart, one maize cob filling an entire cart, men at a saw bench cutting huge wheels from corn cobs etc. Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong List Owner: AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND email: kapana@netspace.net.au http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/
