Hi Listers, I don,t know where the elephant is buried in Stratford, but there is one buried in Foster!! It died when a circus was visiting - supposedly ate a weed that didn't suit its metabolism. The late Dr Robert Fleming of Foster used to love telling the story of how one Saturday afternoon, in the 1950's, a yellow Rolls Royce pulled up at his place, and a fellow got out and said, " Hello Doc, my elephant's a bit crook and I wonder if you could take a look at it?" There was no vet in Foster in those days. I well remember going down to where the circus was setting up, and seeing the dead beast. Its one of those things people talk about at reunions. Only last week I heard that there was another elephant that escaped in the Woodside area years ago! Perhaps you could start a register of Gippsland elephants Linda?
