First freehold titles issued on the Snowy River flats. First selections in Mirboo district. About 1878 Battle between employees of tycoon Tyson and settlers of Heyfield for the Heyfield Bridge. 1878 Jan 9: Black Wednesday fires in Victoria. Mar 1: Railway completely open from Oakleigh to Sale. May 24: Author Mary Grant Bruce born at Sale. Sep 29: Narracan Shire gazetted. Formation of the Shire of Buln Buln. Payment of members of the Legislative Assembly approved by Legislative Council. 1879 2 Apr: Railway from Oakleigh to Melbourne opened. Apr 4: Tenders called for construction of the Swing Bridge at Sale. Shire of Traralgon constituted. Howitt appointed to Sale as Magistrate. Victoria Hall built at Sale. First permanent selection at Cann River by the Morgan family.
