Hi all I am trying to trace the origins of my great grandmother, Elena/Helena/Ellen/Ellener CORIDASS who was supposedly born in Hobart abt 1857, TasLink shows a Catharine CORIDASS m John Baptist SCHRIBER 1858, an unnamed female daughter born to a Peter CORIDARZ in 1862 and several other CORIDASS (with various spellings) marriages/births from 1871. The surname does not seem to have survived in Tasmania. Feedback from the Tasmanian list indicated that Coridas(s) was and still is a very common name near Maffra, Victoria. Does anyone have any knowledge of this surname and where, when and from where these families entered Australia? I suspect that they may have originated in Prussia. Gail Irwin New Zealand
