Sorry for the wrong link, this one should get you there, just got to Births Deaths & marriages http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/ This is what is says VicHeritage Family History The Victorian Registry holds records dating back to 1836. The earliest of these are church registers of baptisms, burials and marriages for the period 1836 to 1853. These church records do not contain as much information as the civil registrations of births, deaths and marriages, which commenced on 1 July 1853. The Registry offers three services that will help people trace their family history: 1. Search Births, Deaths and Marriages on the Internet This service allows you to search the Historical Index database of recorded births from 1836 to 1924, marriages from 1836 to 1939 and deaths from 1836 to 1985; or to look up the Family Group database for couples that married or began having children in Victoria between 1853 and 1860. The Family Group database links parents and their children together and includes some events not registered in Victoria, e.g. children born overseas and overseas marriages. If you locate an index record relating to your family you can then apply for a certificate of the event.
