Hi Lorene, I have traced our ASHTON family back to James ASHTON who was a convict, transported to Tasmania is 1828. I believe that he left a wife and eight children behind in England. I can't be sure what part of England he is from, but I think it was Lancashire. He had four children born in Tasmania to Catherine C(O/U)DDINGTON but I have not been able to find any marriage between James & Catherine. Some of their Tasmanian family later moved to Victoria. There doesn't seem to be enough information to prove any of this and so although it is possible that they are connected to your family, I feel we would have a very hard time trying to prove it. Good luck with your research.
