Hi Yvonne and List, John Henry Loughnan was, according to John Adams' "Path Among the Years" born in 1818 in London, and went to Geelong where he was a tea planter. There he met Frederick Jones, and the two were engaged by John Davison Smith, a merchant, to go to Australia and take up land for him. They established the Lindenow Run, and only gave it up after pitched battles, both actual and legal. I have no idea what happened to Loughnan and Taylor. With Loughnan's brother, Henry N. Loughnan, they had a number of other interests in 1840s Gippsland stations, but they were later at Tarraville in conjunction with a store and hotel. Apparently Loughnan was recognised by C.J. Tyers as someone who disappeared from the Western District rather than give evidence in a case of the murder of an Aboriginal person. Does anyone know what happened to Loughnan and Taylor in the end???
