Listers, Re the proposed West Gippsland Pioneer Register, the exact wording used by the West Gippsland Genealogical Society is: "The pioneer families of West Gippsland would have lived in the area known as the former Shires of Warragul, Drouin and Narracan before 1900." To Wynnette - Russells Creek, Hill End and Tangil were always within Narracan Shire, so your ancestors are definitely in. However, I feel that some of us may be less certain. Narracan Shire when founded in 1878 occupied a huge area but it suffered extensive whittling in the 1880s and 1890s by newer shires such as Warragul, Woorayl, Mirboo and Morwell. Much later (In 1955) the Borough of Moe was hived off and is now a City. I intend to suggest to W.G. Gen Soc that the shire's eastern boundary in particular should be more clearly defined. I still favour a natural boundary such as the Morwell River. I was able to obtain blank registration forms by accessing the W.G. Gen Soc site: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~wggs/pioneerregister.html and downloading copies of the form with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Walter Savige
