    3. Heavens, I didn't realise there were six impressions of "The Hills of Home"! Eileen Finlay was born in Maffra, the daughter of P.C. Moroney, the Shire Secretary. Before Maffra, he was Shire Secretary in Bairnsdale. Her most famous series is "The Caravan Passes" and "The Caravan Returns", set in the hills outside Moe. She mainly wrote int he 1940s, and was much before her time - her heroine was an unmarried mother, and she tackled many social issues. Her father died when the family was living in the western district, and the Maffra Shire sent money to help support her mother. Her mother had a private hospital in Lilydale called Maffra, and I know Eileen Finlay lived in South Gippsland at some time, but I cannot work out where. Her husband was a well-known architect who was killed in a boating accident in Lakes Entrance, so it was probably after that time. Margie refers at the bottom to "The Specialist" - a pamphlet written under the pen-name of Mrs Boswarick, in answer to American Chick Sale's work on outdoor dunnies called "The Amateur". And if anyone can ever turn up a photograph of her...... She is one of Gippsland's authors who is interesting, but little studied.
