Lauris Stanger 11 Morford Court, Shadow Park SA 5158 Telephone (08) 8381 3318 "Lauris Stanger, who now lives in South Australia, has a long association with the Victorian town of Yallourn. Her father, Tom, arrived there late in 1920 even before the town was named, married Irene Mitchell of Trafalgar, daughter of a Gippsland pioneer family. The Stangers began their family life in one of the first houses in the town and enjoyed the great community feeling engendered in a new town where "eveyone banded together". Lauris writes that "Yallourn became one of the prettiest towns in Victoria, even though totally owned by the State Electricity Commission, a great place for a family. "I represented Yallourn twice raising money for the hospital and was made a life governor for my efforts." She became the local chiropodist and her four children were born in the town. Now Lauris Stanger is engaged in a project to produce a book recording Yallourn's history from 1920, until 1981. She appeals to anyone who can submit stories om how and why Yallourn can be seen as a "nice place to live in and not just a hole in the ground". It is hoped that the book "Our Yallourn" will be a permanent record for the grandchildren of former residents and their children.
