    1. [AVG] THE "MINER" - WALHALLA
    2. Jan & Barry Shaw
    3. Hello everyone and Happy New Year to you all, While on holidays recently I was advised that in 1900 an ancestor worked for the "Miner" office in Walhalla as foreman. It turns out that his fiancee also lived in Walhalla (although she hailed from Tungamah in Northern Vic.) and they were married at Cowwarr in May of that year at the Catholic Church. I am hoping to find out a little more about their time in Walhalla which, from information I have gathered so far, seems to have been about two years. Does anyone have access to any rates books or photographs for the area or any other information which might help give me a lead. The names are George Francis McGOWAN and Mary McKENZIE. Their first child, George Alexander, was also born in Walhalla. Just out of interest the best man's name was John James JAMIESON and bridesmaid was Maria ROBERTS. Interestingly John married Maria's sister Elizabeth in a double wedding ceremony with George and Mary, with George as John's best man. I have a small newspaper clipping of the wedding ceremoniy. If anyone else has an interest in these families I'd be happy to copy it for you. Cheers, Jan Shaw, Listowner: AUS-VIC-DANDENONG-RANGES Email: jbs@nex.net.au Transcriber of FreeBMD at Rootsweb P.S.
