Hi Anne, Deaths prior to about 1877 are shown on the Pioneer Index with place of BIRTH, not place of death. The place of death? was of course recorded, but only the place of birth shows on the index. I checked 3 inquests (Cuddihy, Barleycorn & Croft) that were recorded as having taken place at Stratford and their deaths are all registered. Remember also, that Stratford may have been where the inquest was held and not necessarily the place of death. Best to read the inquest to get an exact location. best wishes, Jenny Coates Melbourne's Unemployed in the 1890s http://home.primusonline.com.au/jennyc/Melbourne/ -----Original Message----- From: Anne Napier <napier@vic.australis.com.au> To: aus-vic-gippsland@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 16 Nov 2007 10:04 am Subject: [AVG] Deaths at Stratford Good morning all, I am interested to hear from anyone who has a death in Stratford pre 1865. I would be delighted to connect to anyone researching a family by the name of BLUNDY at Brigalong in the 1880's or perhaps earlier. A branch of this family settled in the Otway Ranges in the mid 1870's and later purchased seed potatoes from a Michael Landley, a well known potato grower. I also suspect that the family may have attempted growing hops in the Gippsland area. Any inform would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Pam Jennings

Hi Philippa Yes, please. Without looking at my wife's computer (she is taking advantage of the 3 day offer of Ancestry.com!) I think Muriel ROBOTTOM is my mother's cousin on the PEDERSEN side, FRIEND was used as families solicitor, BAGOT married into my CORNISH, GAY sounds familiar too (maybe in partnership with the FRIEND solicitor? GOODING is in my mother's papers somewhere (possibly another cousin?). My uncle was an ELLIS (married my mother's youngest sister). I would have to re-read all my mother's letters but a few other names also sound familiar. How frustrating; they would not now be alive but their children are and they will be my second and third cousins! My workload doesn't allow me to explore this at the moment. Cheers and thanks; am a bit excited about the possibilities. Viv . No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
