    3. Good morning and Happy New Year, I am trying to find any information on Phyllis Estelle MASON. She was the daughter of Arthur Ernest MASON and Elizabeth Tweede Mcguinness BAKER. She was born in 1908 at St Kilda and on the 1931 electoral roll was a chemist living at home in Brunswick East.. By 1936 she is listed as a chemist in Nicholson Street, Orbost. I noticed by Googling there still is a chemist shop in Nicholson Street. I was hoping to find any information on Phyllis as I can't find a marriage or death for her. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards Wendy

The Foster Museum does not appear to have anything on file and I have been unable to locate any information from other sources. Can anyone help, please? This was the year of the terrible Black Friday in Victoria which is well documented across the state but the Prom doesn't get a mention anywhere. Cheers and happy 2008 to everyone. 3. Hi Everyone, Another researcher using "Beersheba: the men of the 4th Light Horse Regiment who charged on the 31st October 1917" by Graeme Massey and students at Warracknabeal Secondary College, has pointed out something I missed. In the back are three pages of men who were in the 4th Light Horse, but missed out on the charge. They are not included in the regional listings. For Gippsland, they were: DRAKE, Herbert Edward from Pakenham ENGLISH, James, from Newry GANNON, John Anthony, from Junmunna GOWANS, Walter, from North Wonthaggi HARTLEY, John Emmett from Boolarra LAWRENCE, Bruce Effingham, from Narracan ROWELL, Benjamin, from Morwell. Walter, if you are reading this, given your interest in Narracan: Captain Bruce Effingham LAWRENCE was aged 38 years, a farmer from Narracan. He left the regiment at the beach camp near Marakeb on 28 July to join the staff at Moascar training camp. He rejoined the 4th LHR at Shilta on 13 December 1917. Regards Linda

    3. Hi Everyone, Maffra Historical Society has just received a copy of a wonderful book compiled at Warracknabeal Secondary College that attempts to name all the men who were in the charge of the 4th Light Horse on Beersheba on 31 October 1917. Each man has a short description of his war service and some personal details. There are also indexes by area, and the men below are named from Gippsland. I was fascinated to see FOUR Langtip men from Port Albert named - although one, as a shoeing smith, may not have actually charged. I am happy to provide further details from the book offlist at kapana@netspace.net.au but the entries are too long for me to transcribe them. However they appear to be based on BD&M research, and the online records from the National Archives, so they should be easy enough to follow up. Limited copies of the book are still available - details of price and availability are available by e-mailing me offlist. Can I suggest this is a book that should find a place in most family history libraries? Cheers Linda Those listed (although the geographic designations are a bit wobbly) of the men and their address at the time of enlisting, are: East Gippsland (South Gippsland follows) Bruce, Morwell Brumby, Orbost Caldwell, Briagolong Cantwell, nr Yarram Carr, Newry Cleaver, Sale Connor, Buchan Cotter, nr Yarram Downey (2), Morwell Drane, Glengarry Duff, Traralgon Farran, Maffra French (2), Maffra Hipgrave, Clydebank Huggins, Benambra via Sale [!!] Jenner, Sale Kift, Traralgon Langtip (4), Port Albert Lindsay, Morwell Linton, Newry McDougall, Eagle Hill via Bairnsdale (sic) Missen, Greenmount via Yarram Morgan, Orbost Morley (2), Gormandale Reid, Omeo Reidy, Bairnsdale Rice, Rosedale Roynski, Orbost Scott, Alberton Tanner, Traralgon Williams, Stratford Wilson, Traralgon Woollard, Maffra South Gippsland Backman, Neerim South Banks, Koonwarra Bond, Yinnar Bunston, Boolarra Cole, Korumburra Cruickshank, Jumbunna Dickson, Hoddle Range Dusting, Hazelwood Fechner, Trafalgar Francis, Korumburra Fuller, Leongatha Gale, [not stated] Gray, Lang Lang Gulliford, Warragul Hardie, Ellinbank Heywood, Trafalgar Holton, Warragul Hope, Yarragon Jones, Archies Creek Jones, Wonthaggi Loughnan, Thorpdale McGrath, Jeetho McIntosh, Strelecki McKenzie, Boolarra Minns, [not stated] Mounsey, Wonthaggi Rozynski, Korumburra Seager, Warragul Smith, Korumburra Stanton, Mirboo North Stockdale, Lardner Tackaberry, Yarragon Thorpe, Leongatha Trimnell, Toora Woods, Yarragon
