    3. Hi Chris, One way is to get someone like me, who has a copy of "Vision and Realisation: A Centenary History of State Education in Victoria" sitting on their desk, to have a look. As it is organised by regions, it helps if you know a general area. 4240 is Kilmany Park From http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/Resources/Res-ws.html A school, registered No. 4240, opened 1925 and closed 1956. The school operated in conjunction with the Kilmany Park Boys' Home and attendance records 1925-1956 are held at SFHG and EGFHG. Some school records (1925-1956) are held at the PRO: VPRS 6542, and appear to include the registers. So you are best talking to Sale Family History Group, or East Gippsland Family History Group, who would most likely have included records in the fiche of school records they issued. 3. Hi there, I should have added that the aboriginal gene is "recessive", that is, it is diluted with each generation of non-aboriginal admixture. But the Malay / Indian etc can recur in any generation, regardless of how far removed from the original ethnic person, as was the young man I referred to. Regards Ada D. 3. Hi Dale Your story has opened a whole area I knew nothing about ie 'drover's boy'. I just assumed a relationship between a white man and an aboriginal woman would be a very unequal one - it is nice to know that wasn't always so. Back to DNA testing. In Australia the DNA testing for paternity etc is around $400 I believe. But I have seen some websites encouraging it for family tree information and from memory it wasn't as expensive but I am not sure. At first I thought if Grandma Dunn was still alive she may not have known the facts surrounding her birth, often older siblings are a better source for this knowledge but the fact she called her handbag a dillybag could have meant she had been told or it was just a family saying. I grew up on Thursday Island in Torres Strait and my father used a few local language words in his conversation as a result of exposure to a community rather than a genetic link. (I have researched his tree so am very sure there is no genetic link) I am still intrigued with the story and my 'gut' instinct is that it is very possible Grandma Dunn's mother was Aboriginal but proving it is going to be difficult. Please keep digging and let us know on the list. regards Lynne Very very wet and now flooded Townsville

    3. Hi Pam, Yes, I have the marriage cert of Thomas Dunn and Priscilla Price. He was born in Co Kildare, Ireland in 1791 and emigrated around 1841 to Melbourne. He married Priscilla, from Devon, England [who came out on the Martin Luther] in 1845 but died in 1855 not 1942! That particular Thomas was his son [1848 to 1942] whom we are researching now. I have the records pertaining to Thomas from Ireland and his four children. Priscilla Anne Dunn [alias Marjorie] was named after her grandmother and tis she who is the mystery woman . . . .
