Hello I use mailwasher with both rootsweb and all the Vic cds. Maureen, researching Landry.
Hi Everyone, There is man in town (ie in Gippsland) at the moment from Queensland who is on a fast learning curve about his family. He is only here for the next 24 hours, and as of 1pm today did not know anything about his mother's family, as she died when he was born. He has never met any of her family. We have ascertained that she is buried in Coongulmerang / Lindenow South Cemetery, and he is heading there now, as well as to Delvine, as he is related to half that cemetery. His mother was a daughter of Dennis Edward SAUNDERS and Katherine Isabella VARNEY. Dennis Edward SAUNDERS is the son of Edward SAUNDERS and Mary SCOTT (daughter of John SCOTT of Delvine) Katherine Isabella VARNEY, born 1863 at Rosedale, (sometimes named as Isabella Ridley VARNEY), dau of Jospeh Samuel VARNEY and Louisa Emily BLAKE. These are also the ones who were at Foster, Walhalla etc I have been able to point him to the headstones of most grandparents and great-grandparents, but do not have the details where I currently am for Jospeh Samuel VARNEY. He does not appear to have a headstone in Lindenow South, and died, if I have got my generations right aged 97 at Bairnsdale in 1890. Somehow I suspect it is not him, as that would make him about 70 when his daughter was born. However - would one of the VARNEY family (I know there are few on here), sort me out, please. preferably in time for him to make a quick visit to an appropriate headstone while still in the area. I do have permission to pass his details along offlist. Cheers Linda
I know this is off topic and I hope I can be forgiven for asking. Please: Can anyone tell me whether Mailwasher is compatible with Rootsweb and the Victorian cd's for instance. I was told that it wasn't so have made do without, but getting sick of the increasing spam. I need to install something to stop spam from coming into my system as I have limited download. I would also prefer FREE !! Thanks in anticipation for any suggestions. Off list would be preferable. Marg Qld
Hi Bernadette Great to make contact, and sorry you are on crutches! At this stage we don't have any books, etc., but working towards it. Would love to correspond further. Would you please contact me on larraine@ballarat.hotkey.net.au Kind regards Larraine
Hi Lorraine I am a Dove descendant from John and Mary Dove nee Kennedy I would love to be there for the reunion but as I am on crutches I would be unable to attend. However I would like to know if you have any books on sale or anything else that I may be interested in. I have been doing the family tree on all my lines for last 30 years. and made many trips to Victoria. My contact in Gippsland is to Beth and Sonny Thomas. Beth was from Charles Dove and I am from Walter who went to WA. Good luck for the reunion. Good Afternoon Everyone, Some of you will remember that I posted last May claiming a date in March for a Gippsland Family and Local History Fair at Old Gippstown at Moe. The date was set after we were asked to avoid a certain date, for the South Gippsland fair. That fair is now being held one month before, not on the original date suggested, so I no longer see the one at Moe as being viable so soon after, and then so close to the Victorian Family History Conference at May in Inverloch. I wish those two functions all the best. The funding application on our behalf by Latrobe City, for marketing / advertising, was not successful. Personal family issues mean I do not have the time necessary to devote to the project. My apologies if you receive this message several times - there are a number of ways people were contacted! Regards Linda
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. It is now solved. Edgar Thomas BOND and his wife commenced E.T. BOND and Son, funeral directors (I didn't check when the son, Graham/Graeme was formally added) in 1964 in Morwell, and as spotted by Majella, amalgamated with Gippsland Funeral Services in 1975. That is the same year as E.T. Bond died. Graeme BOND continued on as part of Gippsland Funeral Services for a while. D.I. was good with that phone number - although it is way out of date. That number now rings through to Gippsland Funeral Services. And Jenny did have the right one in the 1930s. Thanks all - just had a lovely time with G.T.'s daughter-in-law and grand-daughter, who had E.T.'s widow on the phone. Cheers Linda
Thank you Anne for your reply to my post re the school. However, the brick building you mention would have been an add-on as the school expanded over the years. During my time there it was a timber building with a corrugated iron roof, staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame. I appreciate your help, Anne. Hi Everyone, Can anyone help me with a location for E.T. Bond, funeral director, of 29 McLean St, Somewhere. His business name plate has appeared in material received from the late John Leckie (long time funeral director in the Latrobe Valley). One option is that he was Edgar Thomas BOND, died in 1974 at Sale aged 60. But that is because he is the only Gippsland one to die before 1985. He could have died after 1985. McLean Street in Morwell is my first guess, but it may be someone out there can do better than my guessing - always a danger in historical research. Picture at http://gipps-heritage-park-cataloguers.blogspot.com/2008/01/new-truck.html Scroll down. It would also be interesting to know how long he operated. So if anyone has him on a death certificate, I would be really interested to know a date. Thanks! Linda
Hello John There is a picture in "Warragul - Progress Through A Century", probably taken early 1980s though when the book was published. The photo is of the two-storey red(?) brick wing with the name of the school in large lettering across the façade. I think it is the east elevation of the building, from memory, as it's now a few years since it was demolished. Linda, Edgar Thomas Bond was a labourer at Driffield, Morwell in 1931-1936 so doesn't sound like the right one. There are no Bonds listed in 1929 Sands & McDougall as undertakers and no E.T. Bonds anywhere in Gippsland (of any occupation). It might be of significance that 'Funeral Director' is not a category in the 1929 directory - only "Undertaker". There is no possible matching male or female E.T. Bonds listed in Gippsland electoral rolls from 1914-1936 and no Bonds in Gippsland in 1936 who were in the funeral business, or anything related. The sign also looks 1930s to 1940s in style so maybe all these resources are a tad early?. Jenny ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever.
