Wondering if anyone can give me a history of the community of Macks Creek. I am also trying to locate any history or location of the property named "Bannans" farmed by the Mackenzie Family, probably John Mackenzie and sons. Also looking for a list of students at Yarram Primary school from about 1930 - 1945, in particular George, William, Raymond and Ronald Mackenzie. Thanks Lisa McMurray (Mackenzie) Canada _________________________________________________________________ Try Chicktionary, a game that tests how many words you can form from the letters given. Hello Elaine, Sorry I am not related to the JOINER family, but I am related to the LAY family, who were in the Orbost area. My great Uncle Fred Lay who died aged 98 in July 2001 and was greatly interested in family history, told the story that the LAY (not sure which generation, either Uncle Freds or his parents) and the JOINER families had the Joiner & Lay Carrying business, (horse and wagons) taking goods from the boats that came into Cunninghame (now Lakes Entrance) to various distribution points. I actually have a photo of one of the horse and wagon teams. If you are interested in this, contact me of list and I will forward photo to you. Is there anyone researching the WILLIS family? George according to his marriage certificate, was born in Bardwell, England and married in 1880 to Elizabeth Lake, so his birth would be about 1851. His parents are listed as George Wilis and Mary Calliman. Any help would be most appreciated. Regards Glenys Hunt.
I have a feeling it was one of the properties my father looked at in 1928 with a view to purchasing - but I have nothing other than a memory of conversations with him over my lifetime. He is gone now so I can't confirm or deny it. Hi Everyone, I am just in the process of sending three voters rolls for the Shire of Avon (Stratford was the shire "seat"), off to the printers. They are from 1866, late 1860s (undated) and 1886. The areas covered at various times are Stratford, Maffra, Heyfield, Briagolong and Dargo. Plus surrounding areas like Perry Bridge, Clydebank, Bundalaguagh, Tinamba and as far across as the outskirts of Sale. People mostly needed to have possession of land to get on the roll. How much land gave them one, two or three votes. A number of women are included. Happy to do lookups for anyone interested - preferably offlist to kapana@netspace.net.au with a subject line something like "Voters Rolls Lookup" I will need to know a surname and an area where you know the family was. And if anyone was feeling like a nice day out - the launch will be at Stratford during the Avon Village Fair on Sunday 4 May. Time to be advised. But come for the whole day - it is one of Gippsland's great days out. The Museum will be open, and the Historical Society will be selling Avonshire (not Devonshire) Teas. Not sure at this stage if the Ferrett Races are still being held. Cheers Linda

Could someone please advise me whether settlers who arrived at Port Albert from Tasmania were listed in the local newspaper? I'm interested in 1863 when my ancestor Robert, Mary Harper (nee Weeding) and their two children, Harriet and Flora arrived at Port Albert from Tasmania and went by bullock and dray to Yeerung or Munro, near Sale.
