Is there someone at Swifts Creek who would be kind enough to tell me if my great uncle Reginald MILLS is listed on a WW1 honour board/plaque anywhere in town? He managed the Swifts Creek Butter Factory before going off to WW1 in 1915; he was the manager from at least 1912. Has anyone written a history of this butter factory? Kevin Mills Jamberoo, NSW

Dianne, you said >Ethel did die in Omeo, but is not buried here (I am secretary for the Omeo Cemetery Trust). Do you know why she was in Omeo?< I wish I did know! I was kind of hoping someone would write back to say something like 'the Duncan family was an old Omeo family' and then I would know why. But no-one has. Ethel is an offshoot from my direct line, so I know nothing about her. The only family reason for her being in Gippsland, that I know of, would be if she kept in contact with her cousins on the Guy side. They would be descendants of her grandfather's brother, Edward Remington Guy (1836-1910). He had a large family, who seem to have stayed around Gippsland - Crooked River, Cassilis, Grant, Talbotville, etc. Thanks to our listowner, I am in touch with one of his descendants who lives near Maffra. On the other hand, maybe Ethel was in Omeo for a holiday and just happened to die there! Thanks for writing and letting me know that she is not buried in Omeo. Wendy
Hello My name is Joy Light and I have been on this list for several months just lurking and enjoying the information, thought it was time to post my interests. My maiden name was DUNBABIN. I am trying to find out more about my fathers early life. He was born in Korumburra in 1918 and in approx. 1939 he married an Isle Myrtle HOLMES. Had 3 children, Dawn b 1941, Joy Patricia who was born in approx. Feb. 1941, but who died aged 6 weeks in March 1943 and Cheryl who was born in approx. 1945. Cheryl was known as Robyn. Dad and his family attended school in Korumburra so I was wondering if there are any indexes perhaps of school records for the Korumburra area. James father was Frederick DUNBABIN who was one of 11 children, born to John DUNBABIN and Amelia ALLEN. It does appear that only Frederick DUNBABIN was the only child that was registered at birth. I have found all the others by marriages and deaths. Hoping these names ring a bell. Cheers Joy

Lorraine, try the Warragul Historical Society and Museum, this is situated on the South east corner of Queen St. and Smith St. intersection (roundabout). The historical society holds hard copies of several newspapers dating back to the early days of the township and surrounding area, they also have some microfilm of some papers, I think from the Neerim area, I think the Museum is open weekends, but once again, I am not sure. The West Gippsland Genealogical Society is on the net at http://home.vicnet.net.au/~wggs/ The Cemetary at Warragul has a person on duty on Monday's, also another day of the week, but can't remember which one. Were very helpful when I went looking for info and gravesites. Hope this helps. Regards, Bernie G.
