Hi My name is Allison. I have set up a data base for convicts. I have 8 convicts in it already. Its a free service I am undertaking to help everyone, so if I could ask everyone on the list to put their convicts on it too it will build up into a very good resource of free information on the subject. It can be found by going to my page and then going to the site called "modern convicts" the name meaning us ...the descendants off. http://millennium.fortunecity.com/blossom/821 Thank you for your time. Hi, List. Can anyone help with the following please? 1. James Anderson of Longford died in 1894 of "Paralysis" (Dr J.A. Reid) a condition he had been suffering from "for 20 years". This was brought about by a fall from a waggon caused by a slippery (icy) step - when alighting to open a gate. 2. A child, Samuel, being orphaned by loss of parents due to a diseaae/epidemic, possibly in or near Heyfield in the mid to late 1850s. Said Samuel became part of James Anderson's family. Would there have been newspaper reports of James' accident or an epidemic in the approximate period above?

Hallo Noelene and all others Glad that the gazetteer proved useful. Here are a few other possibilities for local historians To search for secondhand books (world-wide, including many Australian booksellers) http://www.bibliofind.com/ I have certainly managed to find most of the out-of-print titles on my own want-list. Some Libraries : http://www.nla.gov.au/ http://www.slnsw.gov.au/picman/picman.htm http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/ Electronic Journal of Aust & NZ History: http://www.jcu.edu.au/aff/history/new.htm Australian survey and land Information Group : http://www.auslig.gov.au/about.htm Hope someone finds one or more of these useful Elery Hamilton-Smith.

Try: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/Resources/eastgippsland.html and scroll down to Lakes Entrance Or, failing that, go to the AVG Home page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/ and go to Resources, then East Gippsland. If anyone has any additions or alterations for the Resources pages, please feel free to let me know. As I find it, one of the most useful web sites for Australian mapping is the gazetteer on http://www.environment.gov.au/database/MAN200R.html Best wishes Elery Hamilton-Smith.
Hi Noelene Your reply caught my eye. What's this about Family Tree Maker magazine? I have the Family Tree Maker program but haven't heard about the magazine. Where does one access that? Phil wrote Greetings. > My great mother was Eliza Fanny PRICE b 1862 in Buni (?) or Clunes (?). > I found on the Australian Vital Records CD (at our local NZSG Branch) that > her parents were William PRICE & Eliza Cat. MORRIS. Ref 6923 > Also born to the same parents in Ballarat in 1857(died 1859) was Fanny The following info is on the Vic. BDM's There is no record of a marriage for William Price and Eliza Catherine Morris Children are: Fanny Eliza b.1857 Ballarat Selina Jane b. 1859 Scotchmans creek Eliza Fanny b. 1862 Buninyong Hannah Morris b. 1864 Clunes Mary Ellen b. 1867 Clunes d. 1873 Clunes n.b. The place names mentioned are where the births etc were registered not necessary where the event took place. All the places mentioned are west of Melbourne and not in Gippsland so perhaps Linda knows the correct site to register with? Regards Brian
Lauris, Thanks a million for your message. Know that I know what school they attended I can check at Laverton as I don't live all that far from there. I have been meaning to go there for a few weeks, now I have the perfect excuse. And YES please I would love you to ask your aunt. Any information you can find for me would be wonderful. My father didn't keep in touch for years with his family after his first marriage failed. He ran off with my mother which would have caused quite a stir I would imagine in about 1946'ish. So I am only now trying to piece together his early life. I am in touch with a cousin, but her father was one of the youngest in the family and my dad was 2nd oldest with about 17 years in between. And seeing as Dad was only 20 when he married my uncle doesn't know much about Dads life. So thank you very much for your kind offer. I really appreciate it. Joy
