    1. [AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND] New List for Victoria
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, This is just to let everyone know that a new list has been formed - AUS-VIC, which is for Victoria in general. This is great, as it will give a place to post enquiries for areas outside Gippsland (we try to stick to Gippsland on here), ask for lookups, discuss general matters such as computer programs etc. Regional lists such as the Gippsland list are specially for research in that region only. To subscribe, send a message with nothing in the subject line, and only the word "subscribe" (without the talkies) to AUS-VIC-D-request@rootsweb.com (for the digest, where messages are grouped together) or AUS-VIC-L-request@rootsweb.com (for the list mode, where messages come individually) Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong List Owner: AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND email: kapana@netspace.net.au http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/

    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, This is the latest section of the Gippsland Time Line, and I just wanted to let everyone know that the dates before this are on the AVG Home page, under Resources, at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/. This not only consolidates earlier posts, but now also includes extensive additions, mainly for West Gippsland, by Dr Walter Savige that were not previously posted. The Gippsland Time Line is posted to the list in irregular posts - if anyone has any additions, corrections or suggestions, please feel free to engage in historical discussion! :) Some of you may even come up with important dates we have missed. Some state, national and world events are included for comparison. - ---------------------------------------------------------------- This time-line is copyright, and was originally extracted from "Steps in Time: A Gippsland Chronology to 1899". 3. Hi Bob..and others, I too downloaded this file...but on investigation I think the GED file import function is on the makers "to-do" list....so I've shelved it for the time being as I have enough trouble maintaining my files as is....so I'm not about to begin a whole other database full of imputting!! Would be a very helpful tool otherwise though. Leesa Medowie NSW "The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking." - John Kenneth Galbraith

    3. Hi all I wondered if some of you may be interested in the freeware genealogy software which I use for quick storage and seeing all family lines at once. The onscreen image is a family tree with all links etc. I usually have it in the background when I am working online and find it much easier to use for such quick reference than GEDCOM. Its less than a Mb and is available at http://www.danmorin.com/generations/index.html Gail Irwin

    2. Hi Listers, May I be permitted a small advertisement. The Friends of Nyerimilang have commissioned a history of Nyerimilang (a property overlooking the Gippsland Lakes at Nungurner, not that far from Lakes Entrance) from Marion Le Cheminant, which covers the various fortunes of the area from selection in the 1880s to the present and includes a detailed account of the establishment of the property as a heritage park. The book is copiously illustrated and contains an extensive index of names. The official launch will be on October 8th but advanced copies may be obtained from the web site below. 1. [AUS-VIC-GIPPSLAND] James Harvey/Thompson in Eldorado
    2. Perle Harvey
    3. Hello to the List, I am trying to locate any relatives of JAMES HARVEY/THOMPSON who is supposed to have been born in Eldorado. This is what is on his daughter's birth certificate and his death certificate. His mother was ISABELLA HARVEY (born 1835)who married JOSEPH THOMPSON(born 1821) in 1860 in Victoria. Their children were Ruth Thompson born 1862, died Birregurra 1862 Elizah Thompson born 1863, died Birregurra 1 February 1904 Newton Thompson born 1866, died 1866 Joseph Thompson born 1868 in ? Joseph Thompson , Isabella's husband died in 1867.James was born after Joseph was born in 1870. He was registered as James Harvey originally and then this was changed to James Thompson, his mother's married name. She was a widow when he was born. Our James Harvey, whom we think is the same, says that he was born in Eldorado. On his first three children's birthcert., it states that he was born in Gippsland, and then on the fourth child it says he was born in Eldorado. So does anyone have any person related to Joseph Thompson who was the child of Joseph and Isabella Harvey. Joseph's parents were Joseph Thompson and Jane Rogers and he was born in CUMBERLAND, and Isabella's parents were Andrew Harvey and Ann Wallace and she was born in BURR , Kings County Ireland. Our James Harvey would have been a half brother to Joseph Thompson born in 1868. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Perle Harvey at paarharvey@bigpond.com
