    3. Hi List, Margaret is still bouncing to me, so her e-mail is below, then my comments. Margaret's e-mail is fourems@i-o.net.au =========================================== Hi List 1. Can anyone tell me anything about 'Hawthorn Bank Estate' which as I understand it was subdivided I know not when. 2. Is it possible that some one may have the list of purchasers at sub division time? Hawthorne Bank is situated on the East Pound Road area south of Yarram as far as I can tell. I would be greatful for any information please. Margaret ============================================== I have been fortunate to go to this place, and photograph it, execept I handed the photos over to the Senior Land Use Planner at Council, it is so significant. I will TRY and find the negatives at reprint. The first house is a lovely small wattle and daub, with a previously unknown corrugated iron over shingles. Lovingly cared-for by owners who cannot work out who built or owned the original. It is well off the road, and not something that you can just drive past, unfortunately. Hello Linda and List I have just been down to Vic and Gippsland area, visiting the Port Albert Museum and found Microfilms for the Rate Books for Alberton 1863-1888 which included my McInerney family. I was wondering if Rate Books exist for Sale in the 1880-1890 period? I loved the Gippsland area and will be returning to spend more time there as I only had three days, definately not enough time. The Port Albert Museum is very interesting and well worth a visit. Regards Sandra Balfour, Beacon Hill, Sydney

    3. Hi List This is forwarded on behalf of Margaret, who is having a little bouncing problem. Her e-mail is: fourems@i-o.net.au ============================================================ Hi list Can anyone tell me anything about Lily's Leaf and why it would have a doctor in residence there? Lily's Leaf is between the South Gippsland Highway and Tarraville. I know the doctor had a home there because I lived in it for the early part of my life. If anyone can help me I would appreciate Margaret ============================================================ I have seen reference to Elizabeth Ann Lawler (1858-1949) being born at Tarraville and living for some years at the Lillies Leaf Hotel, run by her stepbrother James Francis. She later trained as a nurse (going from Gippsland to Melbourne to train in her thirties) and coming back to Yarram to opne a hospital. Altogether, she assisted at the birth of 3,100 babies. So there is another medical connection to Lillies Leaf. Further details are in Gippsland Heritage Journal Vol3, no.1 p54. 3. Hello all, I am going to do a tour of the goldfieds starting on the 21st November. I will be visiting the following locations and their surrounds; Jericho Red Jacket Matlock Woods Point A1 Mine Settlement Gaffneys Creek Knockwood Ten Mile Jamieson My offer to fellow listers is if you want any photos taken of old buildings, houses, headstones or whatever, I will take a photo and put them up on a web page so you can have access to the pictures. All I require is that you give me as much information on your subject as possible so it will be easy for me to locate. Also I only have a Holden Commodore so off road tracks will be difficult for me to access. I know some of the locations are out of the Gippsland area but my family came into the region via that road and went out the same way, and I figure a lot of other families came in that way. Please give me a few weeks after the 20/11/99 to put up the pictures up as I will be on leave and away from my computer. I will let the list know when the webpage is ready. If you don't have web access we will have to come up with other arrangements. We can work that out later.
