Do you know the locality of the Beveridge family? A big name around the Swan Hill area, altthough this would need to be 1 or 2 generations on. The original owners of Tyntynder Homestead. Just checked out the Maffra Shire WW1 service personnel entries. OSBORN.T was my grandfather Thomas Henry Osborn. Does anyone happen to know who the OSBORN.C was??? As a matter of interest Tom Osborn was a prisoner of war in France for a time. He experienced mustard gas first hand as well. The following is a letter received by the family. France 22/4/17 Mr. G. Osborne "Grange" Seymour Rd, Elsternwick Victoria Dear Sir, It is with great regret that I am writing to tell you that your son No.342 Pte. Osborne T.H is reported missing. I would not take that to mean missing altogether, but it is more than likely that he is a Prisoner of War. He was a member of a gun's crew that was surrounded by Germans on the big attack they delivered against us on the 15th of April. Three guns were captured and ten men escaped: of the remainder no trace could be discovered when we retook our lost positions an hour later, so there is every hope that he is alive and a prisoner of War which is no disgrace at all as they were outnumbered by 50 to 1. It may be of some comfort to know that our other guns did great execution amongst the enemy, in front of one gun we counted 78 dead Huns and altogether on our front after we had repulsed there were 1250 German dead. He paid dearly for his presumption in attacking the 1st Aust. Div. I deeply sympathise with you in your natural anxiety but hope that he is a prisoner and well, and that you soon hear definite news of the fact. Yours sincerely, (Signed) F. R. French, Major 21st Aust. M. G. Co. I hope they were indeed comforted by this!!!! Lesley

Dear List Members Could SKS please look up the birth of Rupurt CORIDAS for me? He was killed in WW1 as noted on the Gippsland site: "Coridas, Rupurt G. 23rd Batt died 28.7.1916 ........ Born Maffra". I do not know the age limits in Australia for military service but they should provide some guide as to his yob. All CORIDAS families come from one family who emigrated from Hesse to Tasmania so this person is a leaf of my tree. Rupurt will be from the Willhelm (William) Coridas branch and is probably William's grandson. Gail New Zealand
