    1. [AVG] Maps of Gippsland Shires
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, This is just to let you know that the Deputy has been busy again, and has added maps of the Gippsland Shires to the AVG home pages (see URL in my signature). All you need to do is go to the Home Page, from there to Resources and from there to the maps. They may take a little time to download, but could be helpful if you do not know which modern shire your family areas are in. In particular, there are heaps of resources in the resources page if you fall within Wellington or East Gippsland, and all war memorials are in the Resources section, arranged by shire. 1. [AVG] Early Gippsland Women
    2. phasmann
    3. I have yet to uncover how, why, or when my GGGrandmother (Elizabeth MEDLEY) arrived in Gippsland, BUT it was as a single woman and prior to 1843. In April 1843, at the age of 17, she travelled from Port Albert to Hobart on "Diana". Whilst in Hobart she married my GGGrandfather (Colin McLAREN) who was also visiting from Gippsland. They came back to live in Gippsland ?? at Strathfieldsaye.....Colin & Elizabeth named their daughter, born in 1844, Sarah Jane Stratford Elizabeth MEDLEY arrived in Gippsland with at least one sister, Ann Jane MEDLEY, who was only 10 at the time of Elizabeth & Colin's marriage.......I have never been able to find evidence of their parents being with them. Ann Jane MEDLEY married David Moore CAMPBELL on 25 January 1850 at ''Bushy Park''. Does anybody know anything about these early Gippsland women?????? Pam Manning

    1. [AVG] Pianos - was: Fregon family Omeo
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, I have just popped over and looked at John's home page, and think he knows all I know about the Fregons, plus more. But one of the McCoys (Beth, from Maffra), who is connected to the Fregons, told me one of my all-time favourite stories. In the big fire of the 1920s in Omeo, the local chemist, Mr Perry, realised his shop/residence was burning down. So he rushed up starirs and pushed his piano (which was his most important item), off the first-floor balcony to try and SAVE it. It didn't work. Hi Karen Maybe the best idea for you is to join a Family History Society. You could trace back for yourself from your parents' names. If you know your grandparents' full names, you would do even better. Unfortunately you cannot find everything on e-mail or internet. There is a fair amount of foot-slogging to be done for yourself. I just about have square eyes from looking through microfiche, but the information available on them is phenomenal!!!!! Regards Irene Rees Gold Coast
