Hi Ann, I noticed your ASHTON connection. My husbands grt grt grandmother Betsey Latham nee Ashton lived at Stratford in 1849-1889. Betsey's parents were George and Elizabeth Ashton and they came from the Lancashire area in England. Do you have any connection with the Ashton families in England? kind regards, Lorene > Hi Sally, > Is your Theresa Joanna MACLEOD any relation to Angus McLEOD > who married Charlotte ASHTON probably in Bairnsdale in 1897? I live too far away to volunteer but I urge all who haven't visited to go there. It's wonderful, especially for children, and there's lots of things that work and people are allowed to touch. My eight year old grandson was happily occupied for a couple of hours. Shirley Westaway Foster
Hello listers, I was wondering considering the latest thread on sawmills, does anyone know of men who served in the Second World War (WWII). As Sappers in the Timber industry? Any information would be gratefully received. I hope that you are all keeping warm and well. Cheers Lis DENI/NSW

Hi Norman, That excellent book: 'The Land of the Lyre Bird', published by the Korumburra Historical Society, has a number of references to the sawmills in that area (no sign of an Archibald in the index, though). It might give you some further leads. Some of my ancestors went to the Kardella area in the early 1890s to work at the sawmills there. Best!
