    3. Hello Julie, I think that your idea is a great one. I have a man in Birregurra Victoria, Ian Barlow, who is not on email, but who is tracing all the residents from that town. He was able to find our elusive ggrandmother, and by checking the marriage register in the local church found out when she married for the second time. A great idea, Please keep me in touch.. I have a heap of family from my husband in the Hawkesbury area as well. 1. [AVG] West Gippsland Pioneer Register
    2. Walter Savige
    3. Listers, Re the proposed West Gippsland Pioneer Register, the exact wording used by the West Gippsland Genealogical Society is: "The pioneer families of West Gippsland would have lived in the area known as the former Shires of Warragul, Drouin and Narracan before 1900." To Wynnette - Russells Creek, Hill End and Tangil were always within Narracan Shire, so your ancestors are definitely in. However, I feel that some of us may be less certain. Narracan Shire when founded in 1878 occupied a huge area but it suffered extensive whittling in the 1880s and 1890s by newer shires such as Warragul, Woorayl, Mirboo and Morwell. Much later (In 1955) the Borough of Moe was hived off and is now a City. I intend to suggest to W.G. Gen Soc that the shire's eastern boundary in particular should be more clearly defined. I still favour a natural boundary such as the Morwell River. I was able to obtain blank registration forms by accessing the W.G. Gen Soc site: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~wggs/pioneerregister.html and downloading copies of the form with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Walter Savige

    1. [AVG] West Gippsland boundary
    2. Walter Savige
    3. Linda, Bob & Wynnette, I have always thought that West Gippsland referred to that part of Gippsland lying west of the Morwell River, and that is approximately the boundary set by the West Gippsland Genealogical Society. In their website they state that the families eligible for inclusion in the proposed Pioneer Register include those which lived in the Shire of Narracan before it became part of the present Baw Baw Shire. The Shire of Narracan extended to the river until about 1885 when a part comprising the Driffield district was transferred to the new Shire of Morwell. Walter Savige

    1. [AVG] What do you think of this Idea?
    2. JC
    3. Hi All, I came up with this idea some time ago and have finally made a start on it. The only thing is it needs your help to make it work. This will probably be hard to explain but I will do my best: The Idea is to gather together all our ancestors who were born in the one place up to 1910. This will be a benefit for everyone who is looking for a relative born in a certain place. I have put them in separate years, which I feel will also be interesting just to see what different families were there at the same time. If their relative was born their and isn't on the list, they can add them. I have also found through research that families from the same place married into each other. I found alot of mine this way and also cousins. I have made up a sample page for you's to take a look at to see what I mean for Wandiligong, Victoria. If people show interest and think this is a good idea, other places that I want to do include: Bright, Omeo, Harrietville, Glen Wills, Running Creek & Myrtleford. What would also be good if this works out well is if others can do the same with other places. The best places to do would be where most of your ancestors were, that's what I have done. Here is the page for Wandiligong: http://www.angelfire.com/ne/roots/wandi.html Can you please let me know if you think this is a good idea or not. Kind regards Julie Clift.

    3. Hi I am not aware of boundaries as such, but as a member of the Mid-Gippsland F.H.S I would consider that area a little out of our range. More in the Warragul peoples range, I believe. At the risk of boring everybody to tears, Dr. George Dixon Hedley's sister, Elizabeth, married my cousin, Dr. George Witt, and I have wanted to know what happened to them all for some time. Dr. Witt came 'home', but Hedley obviously distinguished himself 'down there'. 3. Hi List, Some may recall we have been asked about a list member from England about Dr Hedley. Today, there I was minding my own business and working away on the Davison Smith / Digby Smith family who established (although Loughnan and Taylor differed with them) the Lindenow Run. John Davison Smith had at least five survivng children, including John Digby Smith and Alexander Smith. Alexander married Agatha Mary Hedley, daughter of Dr Hedley of Sale. Their children were: Edward Alexander, b. 1873, mar. Margaret Jane Jennings; Annie Elizabeth Hedley, b. 1868, d.1868; George Davison b.1883, d.1885. Alexander and Agatha Mary SMITH are said to have gone to Western Australia, to join their son Edward, and died there. The branch of the family to which I was speaking (descendants of John Digby Smith) are not in contact with the Western Australian family.
