    3. Hi Linda, My reference "Alphabetical List of Primary Schools, operating and otherwise 1968" (Not Vision & Realisation) gives school number 4070 Ellinging as location - Noojee, probable inspectorate Warragul in Region 13. Probably not a lot of help as this confirms Blake's location. Regards Doug Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies. http://au.movies.yahoo.com

    3. Hmmm, well, somewhere around the area are a couple of teachers who either had very fast horses, or were very, very good cyclists. My source is "Vision and Realisation: a Centenary History of Education in Victoria", Vol3, page 1315, edited by ...... the one and same Leslie James Blake. Where he has the school half time with Prospect Reg No 3938 "20 miles south of Sale, and close to the coast near Lake Denison". Prospect is an early name for Seaspray, hence my placing it there - and since the Latrobe River goes right down to the shore of Lake Wellington, and there were many early red gum spot mills around, I took that to be a reasonable place for a Latrobe Sawmill, near Prospect. They could even send the timber out on steamers. However on checking, that parish does appear to be more like Noojee than Seaspray. So there are either some very fast-moving teachers (Rail???? Even then they have to regularly get maybe half-way to Seaspray with no public transport). Even despite that, schools that were half-time were usually closer to each other than Noojee and Seaspray. I am wondering if Blake made a mistake then in Vision and Realisation??? And if there is anyone on the list who is a regular visitor to the PRO who can have a look at some school files down there for 4070 Ellinging aka Latrobe Saw Mill to see if there are any clues in there as to where the school actually was. 3. Hi Kaye, I have to admit at first I said What?????????? However: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/Resources/Res-ws.html gives Ellinging, as somewhere near Seaspray. A school, registered number 4070, opened there in 1921 under the name Latrobe Saw Mill, and operated half time with Prospect. It closed in 1937. Little is known about it, so if your friend, via you, would like to tell us anything about the settlement, I think we would all love to learn more. 3. Hi all, http://www.aif.adfa.edu.au:8080/index.html The AIF Project is a research and information activity at The University of NSW at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra. The project has developed a database that records information on the more than 330,000 men and women who embarked from Australia for overseas in the (First) Australian Imperial Force, 1914-1918. The database is searchable by family name, and optional given name(s). I found it quite easy to search by both name and/or by Regimental Number. It is then possible then search by Regiment so see who was in the same Regiment. Details listed include regimental number, religion, occupation, address, marital status, age at embarkation, next of kin (including relationship, name and address), enlistment date, unit name, AWM Embarkation Roll number, embarkation details, unit from Nominal Roll, Fate, Place of death or wounding, Age at death, Place of burial, Panel number - Roll of Honour Australian War Memorial, Promotions, Medals and other details such as Cause of death. Cheers Robyn Fisher (nee Ellis) Researching Ellis, Howlett, Hogben, Maidment, Hollins, Kent, Edington, Fisher, Miller, Sweetland, Helyer.

    3. Now that the picture has been turned around I am wondering if it may be Heazelwood (Churchill). The mountain in the background reminds me of driving from Morwell/Traralgon to Boolarra through Churchill with the Strzeleckis in the background. If it were Boolarra the mountain would be closer.
