    3. Who introduced the first Sausage machine into Australia???? Details of that person, grandfather of a 1950 Sale butcher, can be found in The Midnight Express, a new file uploaded to the AVG Home Pages at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/book4.html This tongue-in-cheek listing of a large number of Sale residents in 1950, when the City was proclaimed, comes courtesy of Glenys Wain. 3. Hi Dean (and anyone else), GHJ was begun in 1986 (I think that is what you are asking). There is a full set in the Maffra Library, although they have now been placed in the compactus and must be requested individually from Library staff. Maffra Library is closed Tuesdays. All other libraries (including the bookmobile) in Wellington carry loan copies, so on any given day it is not possible to guarantee that copies will be on the shelves. I think Sale's copies may also be reference (not for loan), but I am unsure, and also unsure if they still have a full set. I think there is also a borrowing set in Traralgon, and in various other Gippsland libraries. Sale Family History Group carries a full set, and a number of other groups throughout Gippsland are subscribers, although I am not sure how complete some sets are. Outside Gippsland, there are sets at the GSV, RHSV, AIGS and Prahran Mechanics' Institute. 3. I'm looking for any information on William BOLTON and his son Frank (Francis Joseph Littlejohns) BOLTON and their families who lived in Sale over the circa 1863 to 1915 period. William was from Cumberland in England and married Devonshire lass Annie LITTLEJOHNS in Sale in 1865. Frank married Adele Jane WEBER in Sale in 1903. Adele's parents, Fredrick Ludwig WEBER and Sarah Jane (nee SMITH) moved to Sale from Lismore in Western Victoria circa 1891 and there were in there until at least 1908 when Sarah died. William and Frank BOLTON were both tailors by trade, while Fredrick WEBER was a farmer. Cheers, Bill Bill Bolton Sydney, Australia

    1. Index to Gippsland Heritage Journal
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi Everyone, This is a major announcement, for me anyway. :) The first of the online indexes to Gippsland Heritage Journal is now available. Previously we have published them on paper, as stand-alone indexes - firstly as 1-5, then 1-10, lastly 11-15. We have now decided to put them online, so the index to No.16 is available as a test at http://kapana.customer.netspace.net.au/GHJindex16.html This one is rather exciting for me, as it has all the names from the Gipps Land Stock Brands of 1858, which have not been previously available on the net. Often they are the proof as to who was actually operating a run - other references such as Billis and Kenyon and "Victorian Squatters" (Featherstone and Anderson?) give the financiers holding the mortgages, not the person actually operating the run. Sometimes the only stock they may have owned was a horse or a milking cow, but their brand was still registered at the police station - maybe we see it a little like VicRoads registering our number plates these days. That's the good news. The indexes will be added progressively, and will hopefully at some future time exist online as one document - not single issue ones where you have to search each issue. But we thought you might not want to wait for that. The bad news is, I am not going to have time to provide further details from the index entries, and I really don't want to clog the list up with requests for lookups. However, the good news is that Terry Goodwin, who is on this list, is going to trial being our "Lookups Person". So if you find a reference for which you want to know more, he can be contacted by e-mail at terry_goodwin51[at]bigpond.com. Thanks heaps, Terry! Please put "GHJ Lookup" in the subject line, and e-mail him direct. And please be patient - we are unsure how much traffic this will generate - and this lookups offer currently applies only to #16. 3. Hi Vee, Thank you very much for looking. I received an email from Bev WEYMOUTH who was able to give me the two Weymouth and two Silvester ones as they are her family and are buried in NSW. No wonder I couldn't find them. I'll just have to keep looking for the PULIS family and maybe try NSW for them too.
