Hi List, Thank you to the listers who helped me with Mottle Range. It appears to be in the Buchan area of East Gippsland. Many thanks. Doug Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
Trying Google, it brought up - http://buchan.gippsland.com/Attractions/Default.asp but no indication of why it is so named. :-( the older of the tworobbos
MOTTLE Range Road runs off the Buchan Road about 6 km south towards Bairnsdale and travels to the south east then south west direction eventually ending near Wairewa which is to the east of Nowa Nowa and north of the Prince's Hwy. Wairewa is about 17 km south of the start of the Mottle Range Rd. Hi List, I have found a reference to "Mottled Range" and ask if anyone knows if this is in Gippsland. Regards Doug Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
Thank you to everyone who has responded to my lookup request. A whole problem has now been solved - the surname is actually LACE - Clara married her mother's cousin who was 15 years her senior. Obviously a change of Registrar after 1913, & therefore different handwriting, had made it easier for the person transposing to read the name. From all the help you have offered, I have found out more than I had possibly hoped for. Many, many thanks. Maureen
Maffra Cemetery records show Alice Theresa Warriner died 24/05/1964 and was buried three days later beside Robert Warriner in Presbyterian Section 5, Lot 4. There is no other information, either in the books or on the headstone. Unfortunately by this date the place of residence was not being recorded. Jeremy Hales

Hi Everyone, I am working my way through updating the surnames page for the Gippsland List at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/surnames.html Firstly - I still have some more to list, so yours may yet be there to go up. But if you look and cannot see it, feel free to e-mail me the details again at [email protected] Secondly - I am now entering e-mail addresses with a few obvious changed characters (eg a $ sign instead of the @) in an attempt to minimise spam for people who wish to be listed. As time permits I will be working my way through the whole list and re-writing the e-mail addresses. Thirdly - if you wish to have a name listed there, you need to write to me and provide the entries in the format I am using: SURNAME, Place/s in Gippsland, Date range at that/those places and your first name and e-mail address you wish listed. It helps me if you actually put in the e-mail that that is what you are asking me to do, as I get some weird and wonderful e-mails sometimes whose intent may not be totally clear. Fourthly - I only list names as a result of these e-mails - I will not collect them from postings to the list. Fifthly (and lastly) - if you are writing to me to, for example, change your e-mail address on the surname page listing, I need you to tell me the name of the List, as there are three others I maintain as well, and it really does help if I know where to look for you. I then need to know what the SURNAMES for which you are changing the e-mail - when I just get an e-mail that says - please change my e-mail address, as it is now XXXXX, I don't have a hope of working out what entries they are for. Dear Geraldie, It is not a question, merely an illustration of the nature of the material on the new page. The refence on the page is LAWS, Hec.- Butcher for 15 years in Raymond Street. Sixth generation of butchers. Grandfather introduced the first sausage machine into Australia. Ambition: To win Tatt's and become a Raymond Street Farmer. [end quote] This illustrates the type of entry to be found on the page which is not, unfortunately, alphabetical. In the near future the Deputy will update Pico-Search, and you will be able to search from the front page at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/ Until then, you will have to go with http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/book4.html and maybe use your browser's "Edit -> find" function Cheers Linda At 06:39 PM 19/06/2005 +1000, you wrote: >Dear Linda >Would you be more specifics about this question >It is my understanding that my great grandfather >surname Gunton-Laws brought the first sausage machine to Australia .
