    1. [AUS-VIC-GEN-GROUPS] Notice that this list is about to close.
    2. Peter Lakeman
    3. Hello members of the AUS-VIC-GEN-GROUPS mailing list, currently hosted on Rootsweb/Ancestry servers. My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. I have no idea when it was abandoned nor who the previous admin was. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created on a person's whim in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. Cheers Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails.  Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    3. The next meeting of the Melbourne based TMG User Group will be held this coming Sunday: Venue/Time: Sunday September 14th 11:00am Lobby Area <http://vicgum.asn.au/meetings.html#Venues>Mount Waverly Masonic Hall 318 Stephensons Road, Mt Waverley Parking at rear and end of lane on the left <https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Masonic+Centre/@-37.87888,145.128489,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x6ad640056dee814f:0xf345e8e4f6006074>Map Here. Please pass this invitation on to all known TMG (and potential TMG) users. Membership of VicGUM is not required; this is an open TMG meeting. Topic: Nothing specific has been suggested, but I assume we will talk a little about the end of support for TMG and its implications as we continue to use TMG 9. General discussion and Q&A to follow. Cost: Although there is no cost associated with hiring the hall or use of the equipment which has been covered by VicGUM there will be a $2.00 charge, common to all User Group attendees, for the provision of limitless Tea, Coffee and biscuits. The Legacy Discussion Group will be there as well in the hall. Note that most user group attendees last month intend to continue using TMG. It is strongly suggested that users of older versions at least update to TMG 9 as it runs well on current Windows versions (Win 7/Win 8) and will provide some years of use before any move to another program is required because of any future operating system limits. If you haven't upgraded, note that VicGUM has reduced the price of TMG 9 to $48 (+P&P). After the meeting: In common with this new User Group meeting time; VicGUM will have their monthly meeting – <http://vicgum.asn.au/meetings.html>view details here. As always this is a meeting relevant to all Genealogists and you are encouraged to attend. This is free to Members of VicGUM and $5.00 for guests. Graeme Simpson
