    3. Hi Folks, Did you know that Geelong (Point Henry!) "received far more assisted immigrants than any other regional port in Victoria"? Obviously Melbourne isn't regional <vbg> but I think most of us who have researched in this area realise that it was No. 2 to Melbourne for immigration. Just thought I'd let you know about a terrific new book that you might like to find and read - released about a week or so ago. "A Place to Lay My Head : Immigrant Shelters of Nineteenth Century Victoria" by Dr. Keith Pescod, Australian Scholarly Publishing, Melbourne. This is a follow up to the book he published in 2001 ......... "Good food, bright fires & civility : British Emigrant Depots of the 19th Century" His first one was EXCELLENT - helps you understand what our ancestors went through in the lead up to boarding their ship in Britain to come to Australia. And if the first one is anything to go by, the second one should be terrific - what happened to them when they arrived in Victoria ... with LOTS of Geelong references. Keith and his wife were down here (Geelong region) last year and the year before researching for this book. I believe that Griffiths will be stocking it - I know Keith had a list of a couple of places in Geelong that were probably going to stock it. Worth reading! Regards ....... Susie Zada
