Hello Pam, My family connection with Geelong was through my mother's family. She died in 2001, but I do have what I consider to be a most valuable family keepsake in the form of a catalogue of the estate of John Daniel , my mothers grandfather, which lists some 30 or so properties in Geelong that were auctioned by his trustees in 1903. Some of the lots have pencilled in what I presume where the sale prices of these lots. For example, Lot 1, on the corner of Maud Street and Latrobe Terrace sold for 27/6. (1 pound, seven shillings and sixpence). Lot 2, the next door property and on the corner of Latrobe Terrace and Ephrasia Street was sold to a Mr Champion for 20/-. If you think it would be interesting to your readers and we could do some research on the sales, I would be willing to loan the publication to you. Please contact if you are interested. Cheers, Bill Willett. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam & Trevor Jennings" <tjennings@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, 29 November 2003 8:46 Subject: [GEELONG] Geelong articles > I realise everyone is getting into Christmas mode but over your hols perhaps while sorting through your year's finds, if you have any ancestors who could feature in the Geelong Family History Group magazines in 2004, I would be delighted to have whatever you care to contribute! > APRIL edition: TEACHERS of Geelong & District > JULY edition: workers at the WOOLLEN MILLS / TANNERIES etc in Geelong > Thank you, Pam Jennings (editor) > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > Geelong & District Churches : > http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdchur.htm >
Hi Bill - what a kind offer! I think perhaps the best bet is to take your book to the Geelong Heritage Centre - they have copy facilities and I would be happy to then index it or whatever it needs to make the names etc accessable for everyone and then I can certainly print a write-up of your find in our Geelong Familt History Group magazine. I am sure the sale notes etc would be most interesting. Please reply to me off list and see what we can work out. many thanks again - Pam Jennings ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Willett" <zadot@benalla.net.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2003 11:47 AM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Geelong articles > Hello Pam, > > My family connection with Geelong was through my mother's family.
