I would like to make contact with anyone who is researching the following families - 'McMillan', who were recorded in Scottish records as MacMillan, and 'McDonald' (I have included some information below on both families) This is the MacMillan family record from the HIES records: Archibald and Flora MacMillan arrived in Portland Victoria on the New Zealander in 1853. The New Zealander departed from Liverpool on 23 August 1853, arriving in Portland on 30 November 1853. (HIES 454): MacMillan, Archibald, Born 1793, (60), Oskamull, Lord Strathallan McIntyre, Flora, Isle of Mull (60) Anne (29) Christy (27) (The name often given to a female named Christian) John (23) - (ie my great grandfather). Alexander (18) Poor cottar, Hale man, Eligible family, P/N oe44-11-9 My g.grandfather, John was a son of Archibald - he married my g.grandmother Margaret 'Peggy' McDonald from Skye in at Digby, Victoria. Her parents were John McDonald (1804-1878) Isle of Skye, Sct (son of Hector McDONALD and Catherine NICHOLSON) was married in 1838 at Snizort, Isle of Skye, Sct to Flora Lamont b. 1818 Kilmartin, Sct, dau of John & Margaret LAMONT. (1818-1878). (Reference: http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/digby/family/mcdonald_jno1804.htm). Flora & family arrived at Portland, Victoria on the "New Zealander" in 1853. They settled at Hotspur where John's brother Hector McDONALD (of the "Crawford Inn", Hotspur and "Mac's Hotel" in Portland) had been residing for a number of years. John and Flora appear to have had the following family: Mary b. 1838 Skye Hector b. 1840 Skye Margaret 'Peggy' b. 1842 Skye - married John McMillan - myg.grandparents. Catherine b. 1844 Skye John b. 1847 Skye Anne b. 1848 Skye Flora b. 1852 Skye Angus b. 1855, Hotspur Victoria Australia I hope someone can make contact with me. Regards Elizabeth McMillan
Ian, sorry for the delay in replying. I am researching the Cameron, Locke family. My great grandmother was Mary Cameron (father Alexander mother Catherine) and she married Edward Locke. Mary Cameron came from Little River and married Edward in Geelong. Edward fathers name was William. .Mary was born in Scotland and came to Australia as a child. I have been unable to trace the Cameron's, some are buried at the Rothewell Cementary (at little River) Mary was buried at Geelong, with husband, son and grandaughter. Some members of this branch of Camerons, settled in the Western District ( i think it was Alexanders Uncle also called Alexander (known as Sandy) I have quiet a bit of information regarding the lockes and Camerons, but not the names you mentioned. I will send you more details later and hope there may be a tie up with your family. Thanks again for your reply Barb Beechey ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Donaldson" <allsure@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 2:04 AM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Biles/Matthey/Perdrisat > G'day Barb > > Percy Lock, Jean Lock and lots of Cameron's. > > > Regards > > > Ian Donaldson > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Barbara Beechey" <bookkeeping@netconnect.com.au> > To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 10:10 AM > Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Biles/Matthey/Perdrisat > > > > I would appreciate if you would check in your book to see if there are any > > mention of Locke (Lock) or Camerons. > > Thanks, Barb Beechey > > > > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > > Geelong & District Mailing List Information : > > http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdmail.htm > > > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > Geelong Family History Group : > http://home.vicnet.net.au/~gfamhist/index.htm > >
