    3. I have been booted off DPS-Chat for generating an excessive amount of bounced emails too. Bigpond who whoever is at fault is causing all sorts of problems and I also have been receiving multiple copies of emails. Sometimes up to 12 or more over different days. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mrshaw@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2003 5:01 AM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] General Comment > Diane, i have been booted off birmingham and ontario lists because i have > generated an excessive amount of bounced emails. too many concurrent > connections. what i cannot understand is why i have only been deleted off > those listings and not others. i am on many lists. bigpond? aagghh. of > what? > robyn shaw. toowoomba.qld. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Dianne Hughes" <billndi2@bigpond.com> > To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 9:31 AM > Subject: [GEELONG] General Comment > > > > I'm getting duplicates of all my mailing lists except Geelong. 3. Hi Folks, Just to clarify for folks on why they may be bounced off some lists and not others - not specific to Geelong & District but could help some people. Firstly, a REALLY helpful web site to add to your Favourites / Bookmarks ... http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Here you can check which lists you're subbed to - a good idea is to do this when you are subbed to all the lists you want, then you receive an email with this list that you can file away for future use. About getting bounced off some lists and not others .... Of course this can depend on how busy a list is - obviously the busier the list the quicker your bounces exceed the "maximum" allowed and you're automatically unsubbed. The recent bigpond problems just made it impossible to keep up with as a List Admin! In addition to how busy a list is, a List Admin can also change the DEFAULT number of bounces allowed before a member is bounced off. A lot of List Admins don't even realise that's an option! Anyway, the Geelong & District (and Bellarine Peninsula) List isn't too busy to make it impossible under normal circumstances, so I've increased the number of bounces allowed to 12 for List Mode and 8 for Digest Mode - I've found that this normally allows enough time for ISP problems / hiccups to get sorted out. The number of bounce flags doesn't keep accumulating forever - after a period of days/number of bounces (?) it resets to zero. Most times it doesn't cause too much trauma by increasing the number of bounces but I must admit the last couple of weeks have been a right royal headache - was almost tempted to reset the max bounces back to the default (which is think is 4 and 3) but I know so many people on this list I feel guilty if I don't do all I can to help!! Also, don't forget you can always check the Mailing List Archives to see what you might have missed .......... http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/aus-vic-geelong-district Hope that explanation helps some ...........
