    3. I will keep my eye out as I go through Police Court reports in the Geelong Advertiser - as yet I have not seen any licenses issued for entertainment - there was one for a hotel that tried to have a concert each Sat night but this was refused. Have seen hawker's licences and slaughter licences but no Qadrille Office as yet! regards, Pam Jennings ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <aackers@alphalink.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 27, 2004 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [GEELONG] Quadrille Office/Malop St listings in 1858 > Hello Jenny, > > Now that we seem to have decided that the Quadrille Office seems to have > been a dance parlour, and one of the gents was a musician, perhaps someone > with a Geelong historical background can say who would have granted the > licence for them to operate. > > From earliest times (Port Phillip) it was necessary to apply for a licence > to run dances and musical entertainments. > > That could clinch it, if the records have survived! > > Regards Ada > > > At 19:40 26-02-04 -0500, JnnyB@aol.com wrote: > >Thank you to everyone who joined in this fascinating search. > >Especially Susie and Amanda (after all you started this Amanda ;)). > >I asked the question because this is such a knowledgeable list and I > >wasn't disappointed.
