    3. Hi Jenny There are some files at the PRO under VPRS 1676/P0 'Registers of Licenses & Warrants Issued'. Amongst other things, it includes licenses for theatrical performances and to use a public house for concerts. It consists of 5 units, but I don't know anything about it. 3. Hello Listers, VPRS 1676 /P0 commences December 1851 to 1874 It is some time since I looked at it, but my notes (in 1985) show: Volume 1 : Licences for Pilots Licences to engage merchant seamen Licences for victuallers & hotels for dances Licences for halls Licences for theatrical performances and, from 5th October 1865: Licences allotting a neglected child to applicants listing sponsor, job held, address and name of the chils allotted from the industrial school system, but does not give the origin of the child, merely the name. until 31 October 1878, in volume 2, when the entry for children read: "licence no longer needed" I have seen correspondence in the Chief Secretary's correspondence files VPRS 1189, applications for licences from 1851, but I was only searching for Williamstown particulars. Unfortunately the better indexed Attorney General's files seem to date from 1857/8 only but I've not studied them carefully.
