    3. Hi List :) I am trying to trace my g g grandfather, JOHN CARTLEDGE who was originally transported from Nottinghamshire, England as a convict to Hobart in 1843 where he (we assume) met and married his wife, SARAH COOK in 1849. They had their first child John while in Hobart Town in 1849. I have the Tasmanian Archives doing a search for me but they have warned me that there is a long waiting period for results as they are swamped with requests like mine.. We know that they left Hobart Town in great haste shortly after JOHN was born and that they headed for Geelong where they had a number of other children (and buried one son, Edward and possibly a daughter CAROLINE as well) and then they headed off to Buninyong near Ballarat where they lived until they both died in 1886. His occupation over various documents that I do have is listed as Cutler (in England), Miner (in Buninyong) and blacksmith. His father was also listed as a blacksmith on his death certificate. So, perhaps he was a blacksmith while in Geelong as well??? My question is there any way I can trace their journey from Tas to Geelong and is there a way to find where they lived while in Geelong without actually purchasing birth certificates? :) Lyn in West Wyalong, NSW --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
