Hi Pam and Trevor, my g-g grandfather George White had an ironmonger shop in Geelong from the early 1850's until his death in 1871. It was initially in Corio st but soon moved to a better position on the corner of Ryrie and Gheringhap Sts. I have a photo courtesy of the Geelong Rec Centre - have done quite a bit of research and happy to write a small piece. Also my g-g-grandfather William Carpenter operated as a 'coach builder' from the late 1850's to the late 1870's - in Market Square and from 1875 in Malop St - are you interested in this one too ?? Also have a photo. regards Diana Gray > > From: "Pam & Trevor Jennings" <tjennings@bigpond.com> > Date: 08/03/2004 17:10:04 > To: AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [GEELONG] Geelong Storekeepers > > The Geelong Family History Group magzine for October will feature Geelong storekeepers. As this is a far reaching topic, listers are cordially invited to send a wirite-up of their ancestors in Geelong who may have owned a business in the way of a shop - butchers, drapery, grocers, cafes, hairdressers, etc. The cut-off date for contributions will be Oct.1st.Thank you, Pam Jennings (editor) > > > ==== AUS-VIC-GEELONG-DISTRICT Mailing List ==== > Geelong & District Research Centres & Museums : > http://www.zades.com.au/geelong/gdresc.htm > > This message was sent through MyMail http://www.mymail.com.au
